James Kilbane will bring his country Gospel concert to Cong and St Mary of the Roasary church on Friday, April 20, at 8pm.
In Cong the community are undertaking to help fundraising efforts for both the Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland parishes for each of their parish needs.
The spirit of togetherness between both church communities in Cong was shown in 2001, when the Catholic church had to close for seven months for renovations and local Church of Ireland church opened its doors for the duration of the renovations for all Catholic services.
James Kilbane's gospel fundraising concert will further the Christian fellowship between the two traditions and all are very welcome from across the region to attend and enjoy the event.
The Church of Ireland community in the area dates back to the 1700s and the current church, also St Mary’s, is more than 160 years old, it was consecrated in 1855. Both parishes continue to work closely together and hope that on the night they will be joined by a wider Christian family to gather and raise much needed funds for each parish's needs and upkeep.
The concert will have a strong emphasis on families and everyday Christian family life. The church concert will include many of his Christian family songs including "There is a place", "Mama’s Roses", "Because He Lives", "The Richest Man", and "The Nazarene Song". Special guests on the night will be will be Annette Griffin and John Staunton.
Annette Griffin is a well known, accomplished Irish singer. She studied voice and music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin with further training in California, USA. She is at present resident singer at Ashford Castle. John Staunton a very familiar face, talented singer and musician. He worked for many years in Irish showbands as part of the TR Dallas band and then moved on to working and living through the growing career of Daniel O’Donnell. Staunton spent years performing around the world with Daniel O’Donnell and he now lives in Cong.

This will make a ideal event to celebrate family, community, and to help both of Cong’s parishes. Church concert access will be from 7.30pm.
