Hundreds of locals and visitors are expected to wade through miles of mud as part of the sixth annual Mayo Mud Run in Moygownagh this weekend.
Moygownagh GAA and Community Centre will be a hive of activity on Sunday as participants gear up to run, crawl, and jump through some 8km of forest trails and natural obstacles.
A bog roll, mud bath, and bed of needles are some of the activities that await the mud-mad adventurers.
John Diamond, organiser of the Mayo Mud Run, says he is delighted to host the event on his own land once again as it is a major boost to the locality.
“It’s essentially keeping the lights on here in the community centre. We have phenomenal costs from karate to indoor soccer to our playschool, everything has to be funded. It’s a way to spread fundraising outside the locality. Because we are such a small town and community, it’s better to bring the outside in,” he said.
Organisers remind participants that they must have their applications in by 11am this morning, Friday.
Once again T-shirts and substantial goody bags, which include a voucher, can only be guaranteed to the first 500 participants.
