Water Babies is taking bookings for the summer term, starting in May and running for 10 weeks.
Weekend and weekday classes are held in Hotel Westport and Breaffy House, Castlebar.
Water Babies is run by Jamie and Lisa Cobbe; they currently teach more than 900 babies and toddlers a week in Galway, Mayo, Limerick, and Sligo.
The Water Babies programme is designed to make the most of babies’ natural affinity with water. It teaches confidence and safety, using specialist techniques that see many swimming short distances from as young as 30 months.
"Baby swimming is an entirely safe and gentle activity which helps parents bond with their baby while giving them a lifetime’s water confidence and safety skills," the couple say. "Swimming from birth stimulates brain and muscle development in babies in a safe, relaxed, way. Babies absolutely love the fun and freedom of being in water, and sharing this experience with your little one is one of the most exciting and rewarding things you could ever do. Using word association, movement, games and songs, we create sessions that are informative and heaps of fun."
The Water Babies swimming course is different to traditional swimming lessons. Water Babies only uses warm water pools (30°C or above ) so babies can join classes from birth and immunisations are not required in order to start classes. And while the emphasis is on having fun, the course is carefully structured. Each of the lesson plans is worked out to progress learning and understanding.
"Our main aim is to enable your child to be incredibly confident and happy in the water, right from the word go in an environment that is safe and enjoyable for both parent and child."
