Castlebar based Garda sergeant Joe McKenna has been promoted to the rank of inspector in the force. The Westport native was promoted to the rank on March 5 and will be leaving his current post as divisional clerk in Castlebar Garda Station to take up his new posting in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, on March 31. McKenna was first posted to Cavan in 1984 after he graduated from the Garda College. He was posted in 1990 to Glenamoy in north Mayo where he served until being promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2001 and being redeployed to Killala Garda station. In 2002 he was made divisional sergeant in Castlebar Garda station, before being promoted again to the rank of divisional clerk in 2004 where he served until his most recent promotion.
