A song for Anthony in Ballina

A special evening is in store for music-lovers in St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina on Friday, April 6.

Renowned Ballina tenor, Garda Alan McGinty, is headlining a concert in aid of the Anthony Golden Community Park, Ballina. The park will be a community and sporting facility comprising of an all weather football astro pitch, hurling wall and a community centre which can facilitate all ages.

This park is a fitting tribute to the life of Garda Anthony Golden who was born and raised in Ballina and who, in 2015, in uniform and unarmed, died in the line of duty serving his country.

Alan McGinty, who is a member of An Garda Siochana stationed in Dublin will be joined in the concert by his colleagues in the St Muredach’s Cathedral choir and by the Culleens National School choir, where Tony Golden went to school. The cathedral choir’s superb soloists and talented instrumentalists will also feature. Musical director for the evening is Regina Deacy and accompanist is David Caulfield.

Alan McGinty started singing in St Muredach’s Cathedral when he was 17-years-old as a member of the Cathedral choir. He quickly became recognised as a talented soloist within the choir and as a cantor with Mrs Patsy Doherty.

He has since sang solo many times with the choir in their concerts and along with soprano Debbie McCole, has wowed the crowds with his Italian opera renditions at the Ballina Salmon Festival’s International Evening.

Don’t miss this very special night of music, tickets are €15 and are available at Ballina Garda Station, Rouses Pub, Culleens N.S., Timmy McGrath’s and Ballina Tourist Office. Doors open at 7.30pm, with the concert starting at 8pm.
