Castlebar Chamber to hold public meeting on town centre redevelopment

Castlebar Chamber welcomes the decision by the Castlebar Town Council to redevelop the Main Street/Ellison Street area of the town. “This is a very welcome development. The chamber have been calling for this redevelopment for a number of years and we believe that this project is a welcome boost to the traders in the traditional town centre, especially in these difficult economic times,” said chamber president Peter Glynn.

At a recent electoral area meeting, town manager Seamus Granahan confirmed the council's commitment to the project despite the economic downturn and cuts in local authority funding.

The proposed development will include improved lighting, planting of trees, wider granite footpaths, outdoor seating, and a boulevard effect along Main Street and Ellison Street. The plans for the proposed development are currently on public display in the town council office and in the library.

The chamber will be holding a public meeting within the next two weeks at which officials from the council will outline the full details of the proposed development.
