Permission sought for new Car park at St Patrick's Church in Ballina

A new car park is to be developed at St Patrick’s Church in Ballina if approval is granted by Mayo County Council.

St Muredach’s Trust has sought planning permission for the development which will help to facilitate the proposed new school building for the neighbouring St Mary’s Secondary School.

The application, which was submitted to the county council at the beginning of February, provides for the development on a 1.17ha site at McDermott street in the town.

It will be easily accessed from new entrance and exit roads on both McDermott Street and from the new access road that is to be created from Sli Ectra for the planned new school.

The school, which will come in at a cost of around €13 million is currently in the tendering process with work expected to begin next autumn and take 18 months.

Mayo County Council will make a decision on planning for the car park by March 29.
