Kenny unveils bust of Mayo legal great

Former taoiseach Enda Kenny has unveiled a portrait bust of the late Thomas Valentine O'Connor in Swinford.

Described by Mr Kenny as a man who broke the mould in Irish legal circles, O'Connor was the first Mayo person elected to the position of the president of the Irish Law Society in 1972, having practiced as a solicitor from 1937 until his death in 1988. He also acted as the Coroner for East Mayo during his long legal career.

O’Connor’s many achievements and lifetime of contribution to the local community in Mayo and further afield were highlighted at the recent unveiling by the former taoiseach at which the O'Connor family legal business was represented.

The bust is located in the Swinford Cultural Centre.
