The live entertainment continues once again next Saturday night the March 28 at Bar Ritz (Mulroy’s Bar ) as the Finbar Hoban Presents… series continues to bring the most diverse and popular music groups to Castlebar. The first band to take to the stage will be 21 Outs at 9.15pm; their music is loud, honest, engaging and soulful with strong blues and grunge influences. All songs are arranged by front man Philip Cassidy, who at only 23 has been playing and performing live in venues across Ireland for the past nine years. The band formed in late July 2007. The band recorded their first EP in Temple Lane Studios of July last year. Temple Lane studios are among the top recording studios in Ireland with past clients including Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, Phil Lynott and Shane McGowan amongst others, so be sure to get there early as 21 Outs are sure to put on a blazing performance.
The second group of the night will be an act from Dublin called Heritage Centre, a marked contrast to the current crop of indie buzz bands, Heritage Centre sound has been compared to the likes of Weezer, and The Shins. Having moved from strength to strength in the last six months Heritage Centre released their debut single ‘Losing Touch’ to a packed Whelan’s Bar with critical acclaim. Their debut EP The City, The Tree and The Fox was released on February 20 to a sold-out show, again in Whelan’s Bar in Dublin. They have already been tipped as ones to watch in 2009 and are about to embark on a nation-wide tour supported by in-store appearances, shaking hands and kissing babies!
The headline act of the evening will be electronic folk, rock group from Dublin called Sleep Thieves. They met wearing a flower on their label to recognise each other across a crowded bar and talked long and late about music, past and future. They traded opinions and half baked notions and found that there was much to be gained from putting their heads together, so soon after, they convened across a cluttered room full of keyboards, synths, leads and laptops. Ideas were formed and were turned into songs, some of these songs are here to enjoy nOw such as the beautiful “Osumi” right through to “Winter” plus brand new material will be showcased at Bar Ritz next Saturday night March 28 .
