Social enterprises in Mayo could be in line for €50k funding

Mayo County Council, in partnership with Social Innovation Fund Ireland, is hosting an information seminar for local social enterprises to learn more about how they can apply for funding from the new €1.6 million Social Enterprise Development Fund.

The event will take place in the Regional Training Centre in Mayo County Council, The Mall, Castlebar on Monday, February 19, at 11am.

This new fund will be delivered over the course of two years and will offer the chance for up to eight social enterprises per year from across Ireland to receive a cash grant of €50,000 to put towards growing their organisations.

The successful applicants will also receive a place on Social Innovation Fund Ireland’s six-month accelerator programme, which is designed to help them to develop their ideas into powerful community solutions through ongoing support and advice.

Peter Hynes, chief executive of Mayo County Council, said there are many organisations that can benefit from this funding in the county: “The new Social Enterprise Development Fund is an important initiative which is run in partnership with the 31 local authorities throughout Ireland to support people in social enterprises who are creating jobs and services and helping to build resilient communities.

"There are many organisations throughout Mayo who I believe could benefit from the finance and expertise available from Social Innovation Fund Ireland, and I encourage them to attend our free seminar to learn more.”

The deadline for applications is Thursday, March 28. Interested social enterprises can register for the free seminar at www.socialinnovation.ie/social-enterprise-development/
