IWAK flies into award contention

Ireland West Airport Knock (IWAK ) has been nominated for three Moodies awards.

The awards recognise and reward best practice in social and digital media by airports and airport retailers globally.

IWAK has been nominated in three categories — Best Use of Facebook, in which it was the only Irish airport to be nominated; Best Use of Paid Social, for its campaign marking the opening of the new M17 motorway; and Best Overall Use of Social and Digital Media by an Airport.

Donal Healy, head of marketing and communications for the airport, said: "‘The airport puts a major focus on digital and social media channels which helps the airport punch well above our weight on the international stage.

"To be nominated for three global awards and to be alongside some of the biggest airports in the world reinforces our belief that digital and social media channels offer the perfect platforms for smaller businesses to compete alongside major international players and in many instances outperform them," he added.

The airport has the second largest social media presence for an airport in Ireland with more than 100,000 followers across the three main platforms, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

In 2017 the airport saw passenger numbers grow by two per cent to 750,000, an increase of 15,500 on the previous year.
