The first meeting of the newly set up Mayo County Council Working Group to progress a permanent formula to deal with verge trimming and overarching trees will meet tomorrow (Tuesday, January 16 ).
The issue of verge trimming and hedge cutting has been a thorny issue for many years for the council, with the responsibility and the cost of verge and hedge trimming being a regular topic of debate at council meetings both a municipal and full county council meetings for many years now.
At today’s (Monday, January 15 ) January County Conucil meeting four councilors Michael Holmes (Independent ), John Cribben (Fine Gael ), Damien Ryan (Fianna Fail ) and Theresa Whelan (Sinn Fein ) were nominated to sit on the working group alongside the Cathaoirleach of the council – the current Cathaoirleach is Claremorris based Independent Cllr Richard Finn.
The working group will also contain representatives from other interested groups such as the Irish Farmers Association, the Irish Road Haulage Association, ESB and Eir and others. The working group will report back through the Roads Strategic Policy Committee to the full council on the progress being made.
