Ireland’s largest discount retailer, Dealz, celebrated the opening of its 61st Irish store in Castlebar this week, with Mayo footballer Cillian O’Connor on hand to cut the ribbon. The newly opened 5,000sq ft store, located on Ellison Street, brings 22 new jobs to the area and is the retailer’s first store in Mayo.
Cillian O’Connor oversaw the store opening proceedings. Customers had the chance to get their photo taken with the local celeb, and also had the opportunity to win Dealz vouchers ranging from €5 to €50, with golden tickets for the first 50 customers. To add to the party atmosphere, there was a DJ, free face painting, and lots of free goodies for customers to enjoy.
Dealz country manager, Darren Jones, said: “We are delighted to have opened our 61st store in Ireland. Our first Mayo store, we are excited to be extending our product offering to the people of Castlebar and the surrounding towns. A site previously vacant for seven years, we are looking forward to bringing some life back to the unit and joining one of the town’s main streets. Through Dealz we will be bringing amazing value every day to new customers with our €1.50 price point and look forward to welcoming the local community in store over the coming weeks.”

Dealz supports Irish charity Make-A-Wish which grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life threatening illnesses; the charity recently celebrated raising more than €250,000 to date.
