Killala based plant put up for sale

An unfinished biomass power plant in north Mayo is expected to fetch almost €10 million after being put up for sale.

The plant, which was being built in Killala by Mayo Renewable Power, had already seen an investment of close to €100 million before work stopped when Mayo Renewable Power initially went into examinership, before entering liquidation in November last year.

Former Taoiseach Enda Kenny turned the sod on the facility a number of years ago and it was due to come on stream this year with 300 construction jobs and 130 permanent jobs due to come on stream at the former Asahi site in Killala.

It is now being sold by Dublin-based asset valuer McKay on instructions of the liquidator of Mayo Renewable Power, Michael McAteer of Grant Thornton. Bids are due by the end of January, but prior offers will also be considered.

The plant, which is about half-finished, could be sold with a view to completion on site, or for shipment to another location.
