One act drama festival in Ballina this weekend

The third annual One Act Drama Festival will take place in Ballina this weekend. From today, Friday, November 3, to Sunday, November 5, a number of drama groups will converge on the Ballina Arts Centre for a series of one act plays.

This festival has grown in popularity since its inception by Eugene Loftus in 2015 and together with his committee he looks forward to extending a warm Ballina welcome to new and returning patrons. With three plays nightly, audiences can look forward to variety and fine hospitality in the comfort of Ballina’s modern 220 seater theatre where Sean and his staff work side by side with the festival crew to ensure a seamless event.

Patrons are encouraged to join the organisers and contesting groups, nightly for the Festival Club at the newly refurbished and luxurious Shambles Bar at the Ballina Manor Hotel.

Opening this year’s festival will be Sinead McKenna. A local, Ms McKenna is an award winning international theatre lighting designer and the main adjudicator, Imelda McDonagh, is among the most celebrated in the circuit.

The groups taking part this year on Friday, November 3, from 7.30pm are The Moat Club from Naas, Loughrea’s Seamus O’Kelly players, and Clann Machua from Kiltimagh.
