The Fine Gael party in Westport has set out its stall ahead of June’s Local Elections. At a packed meeting in the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport last Monday night five Fine Gael candidates were selected for the upcoming Town Council elections on June 5.
The convention was chaired by Senator Paddy Burke. The five candidates selected to go forward are Cllr Teresa McGuire, Cllr Myles Staunton, Ollie Gannon, Christy Hyland, and Michael McLaughlin.
The selection of these five candidates gives the party in the Town Council elections a great spread of youth and experience. Councillors McGuire and Staunton have served over the last number of years on the town council with great distinction. Hoping to win a seat back this time is Ollie Gannon. Mr Gannon had served for 10 years on the town council. They are joined by two new candidates, Christy Hyland and Michael McLaughlin.
The meeting was addressed by Deputy Michael Ring, Cllr John O’Malley, Cllr Austin Francis O’Malley, and town councillor Peter Flynn.
