Join Emer Mayock and guests for a musical performance to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge and the coming of St Patrick’s Day. Sunday March 15 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm in the education room.

The Knitting Circle

Exchange patterns, learn new techniques, bring along your knitting and join in on Friday March 20 from 11am to 1pm. The event will take place in the education room.

Clay weaving workshop

Learn about the different types of baskets in the museum’s handling collection and weave a basket from clay with Tommy Casby. This event will take place on Thursday March 26 from 4pm to 5pm.

Drop in textile event

Connaught textile crafters’ creative embroidery event. Meet the group or join them for the day by bringing your own knitting, crochet, felting, etc. This all ages event will take place on Saturday March 28 from 11am to 4pm.

Tinsmith demonstration

Join local tinsmith Terry Maughan and watch him turn scraps of metal into useful working items. This event will take place on Sunday March 29 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Study day for Leaving Certificate art students in association with the National Gallery of Ireland

This slideshow and talk for students and teachers draws on images from the national collection and covers the following topics: The Renaissance, Impressionism to Abstraction, and Early Modern Irish Art. This event will take place on Wednesday March 25 from 10am to 1pm.

Common threads: An exhibition of fabric art

An exhibition of fabric craft made by eight women of different nationalities now living in Mayo. This exhibition consists of a stunning range of work which is the result of a joint project undertaken by the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life and Mayo Inter-cultural Action group, and facilitated by community artist Carmel Balfe. Running until mid March 2009.
