West Women in Farming Ireland destined for European Congress of Young Farmers

Mairead McGuinness Midlands North-West MEP and the first vice-president of the European Parliament, has invited a delegation of West Women in Farming Ireland (WWFI ) committee members including Catherina Cunnane, Paula Mullen, Rachel Leonard, Niamh Garvey, Martina Egan, and Mona O’Donoghue-Concannon, to a convention in Brussels this week.

The Mayo, Roscommon, and Galway natives will make their way to the fourth European Congress of Young Farmers in the European Parliament, hosted by European People's Party on Wednesday October 18, and Thursday, October 19.

Speaking about the trip, Kilkelly native Catherina Cunnane, who is co-founder of West Women in Farming Ireland, Aubrac cattle breeder, and journalist with That’s Farming said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for WWFI members and we are looking forward to an interactive, informative, and beneficial networking event. It will provide us with an invaluable opportunity to meet with other farmers, which is paramount for our members. The knowledge we will gain can be made applicable to both our new group and our own farming enterprises.

“As a young female in the agricultural sector, on a personal level I am very thankful to Mairead for acknowledging the esteemed efforts of WWFI to date. She has been very supportive of our group since April and undoubtedly she is a leading agricultural ambassador. Mairead is leaving a very powerful mark in the industry and she recognises and respects the significant involvement of women in agriculture,” Ms Cunnane concluded.
