The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív this week announced that two Mayo community radio projects in Claremorris and Castlebar will be in receipt of more than €200,000 under the Community Services Programme.
Claremorris Community Radio Ltd will benefit from €106,930, while Community Radio Castlebar FM Ltd is to receive €96,930 in funding
Nationally a total of seven community radio and four Traveller organisations were in receipt of over €1 million, with this funding providing at least 50 work opportunities in the projects involved, with operations expected to commence at the beginning of May 2009.
According to the Minister: “The Community Services Programme continues to focus on enabling local communities to provide a vast range of essential services for their local communities. In the current economic climate these new employment opportunities should be very much welcomed in the communities served by these projects.”
