Once again the Claremorris Agricultural Show Committee is gearing up for their annual show – the 99th installment of which is to be held in Claremorris on Sunday, August 6 – making it one of the oldest shows in the country. At this stage they are looking forward to the 100th show and plans are in place for this major event next year. Last week, this year's show was launched by Joe Healy, president of the IFA. Mr Healy had encouraging words for the show and promised the committee he’ll be back next year for the 100th show.
This 2017 show will be officially opened by Maria Walsh (former Rose of Tralee ) at 2pm. This year's show promises to be a wonderful event, the organisers have made every effort to produce a fantastic day out for all the family. Indeed, the committee hopes it will be a wonderful fun filled day as people take the opportunity to meet up with family and friends.
With the organising committee retaining the show’s traditional elements, while at the same time working to diversify the overall format, makes the show increasingly attractive and accessible to the whole family. This year, the committee is working harder than ever to make sure the show will be a huge success under the chairmanship of Gerry Lynch.
In conjunction with the Irish Shows Association the Claremorris show is hosting the All Ireland Pedigree Suckler Type Heifer Championship. This is open to all breeds of qualifying pedigree suckler type heifers and is one of the highlights of the show, drawing entrants from all over Ireland. Claremorris is now recognised as one of the biggest cattle shows in the country, and is getting bigger year by year, with a prize fund of €7,000 thanks to main sponsors: Claremorris Credit Union, Hillside Filling Station and Aurivo.
There will also be a Horse and Pony classes with a prize fund of over €3,300, with a Young Handlers Bonanza prize fund of €500. There are also classes for donkeys, fowl, and sheep. There will be lots of food stands, food tasting, trade stands, and pottery displays.
The show is a great family day out, adults €10 and a family ticket costing just €20. There is something for all the family members to see and do on the day. Free shuttle bus from the Square, Claremorris, every 15 minutes.
