SPC proposes levies on new developments

Members of Mayo County Council’s planning and economic development SPC proposed a draft Supplementary Development Contribution Scheme at Monday’s meeting, with the scheme to now go before Mayo County Council next Monday for consideration.

Senior planner John McMyler told the SPC that the supplementary development contribution, to be paid by builders on new developments, which was needed to meet infrastructural needs in both urban and rural areas, received two submissions following its advertising.

James Maloney and associates and CIF made these submissions with the underlying concern being the adverse effect the increased cost on the construction sector in this current economic climate.

The county manager in his report said that even in such a difficult economic climate infrastructural programmes need to be facilitated and an economic level of contribution is “reasonable and necessary”.
