Hanley Hound is climbing Croagh Patrick for the Irish Cancer Society

Seven year old Hanley, is currently training with his owners Emma and Brian to Climb Croagh Patrick and raise vital funds for The Irish Cancer society. Hanley, with the help of his owner Emma is currently strength training so that his little legs will take him smoothly up Croagh Patrick without too much stress.

He and his owners from Hollybarn Dog and Puppy Training centre will climb Croagh Patrick on Saturday, July 8 for Cancer Research and are asking people to donate to this cause which is close to their hearts. Emma is dreading the trek to the top more than Hanley but is determined to raise funds for Cancer Research and ensure that Hanley gets up and down the mountain safely.

Emma and Brian have asked if anyone would like to contribute that they drop a line to [email protected]. Hanley has sponsorship cards out and about and is fundraising online www.justgiving.com/fundraising/hanleyhoundshikeforcancer to raise funds.

Money raised from Hanley's trek will support cancer patients in Mayo in many ways, one way for example is through night nursing. Last year 82 cancer patients in Mayo received 490 nights of care through the Society’s Night Nursing service. This service allows ill patients to receive end-of-life care at home, surrounded by their families and supported by the home care nursing team. This is the only free, out-of-hours nursing service available to cancer patients in Ireland.

Volunteer drivers facilitated 365 journeys for 35 cancer patients in Mayo in 2016 easing the burden of treatment for people affected by cancer. The Irish Cancer Society is the leading voluntary funder of cancer research in Ireland and has invested €20 million in research projects since 2010. Please support Hanley in his efforts by donating how you can www.justgiving.com/fundraising/hanleyhoundshikeforcancer
