Taoiseach welcomes investment of €303,891 in Mayo based seafood enterprises

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed, of the awarding of €91,972 in grants to two seafood enterprises in County Mayo. The two Mayo based seafood enterprises which have received funding are Sofi Shellfish (grant aid of €27,526 ), located close to Mulranny, and Carr and Sons Seafood (grant aid of €64,446 ) in Killala. This funding will allow for a greater investment of €303,891 into their businesses. The funding is awarded under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF ) Operational Programme for the seafood sector.

Mr Kenny said: “This further round of funding will see a substantial increase in funding for aquaculture enterprises, which is most welcome. The grant aid will help our Mayo based seafood businesses in areas like business development and planning, as well as allowing them to purchase the necessary equipment to help them grow. Seafood businesses in Mayo will continue benefit from this scheme, which will continue until 2020. I have no doubt that this funding will have a positive economic impact on our costal communities, as well as strengthening rural Ireland in line with our comprehensive Action Plan on Rural Development - Realising our Rural Potential, which was launched in January. This is in addition to the Atlantic Economic Corridor Taskforce launched in Castlebar in March which will work towards strong regional development for the western seaboard.”
