On Thursday, May 4, Unity Racing, World finalists in the F1 in Schools competition, will set out to break a Guinness World Record on the grounds of St Muredach’s College, Ballina, at 11am.
Formula One in Schools is the largest worldwide competition which promotes all four STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths ). The competition is available to some 20 million students from 45 different countries, with innovation and originality being key as teams are expected to operate as actual F1 teams.
The competition sees each team design, manufacture, and race a 1:20 scale model F1 car, powered by a compressed CO2 canister. In addition, similar to an actual F1 team, the competition requires each team to create a unique team brand, and market that brand effectively by using social media and other methods.
Unity Racing will be representing Ireland at the F1 in Schools World finals in Malaysia this September. To see them compete at the World finals, a large amount of sponsorship and donations will be required. The Ballina and, indeed, wider Mayo and Sligo communities, have helped them greatly so far, but Unity Racing still has a way to go.
That is why Unity Racing will try to break the world record for the largest human car image. With innovation a key principal of Unity Racing, the team have developed a way of giving back sponsors return on investment in a way which has never been done before by any F1 in Schools team in the world. Sponsors of Unity Racing will be given the opportunity to advertise at the event on May 4.
This will see up to 2,500 people on the day attempt to break the existing record of 1,660 people in the shape of a car. National and local media attention will provide an opportunity for Unity Racing to promote new and existing sponsors and the local Ballina area, in addition to St Muredach's College. It will be a fun filled day with live entertainment from Flatout and all are invited to attend.
For any sponsors or individual who wishes to come on board with Unity Racing, with any affordable amount, you can e-mail [email protected] or contact Richard Grimes, team manager, at (087 ) 2971367. With more than a quarter of a million impressions on social media so far, Unity Racing prioritises making all investments worthwhile for businesses.
In order to officially launch the world record, Mondello Park has given Unity Racing a voucher worth €199 for its Motor Race Experience in a Formula Sheane, single seater race car, to give away on Facebook. To be in with a chance to win this voucher all you have to do is to like, share, and tag three friends in the post on the Unity Racing Facebook page.
