Mayo Day gets ready to celebrate all that's good about Mayo

The third installment of Mayo Day will take place next Saturday, April 29, and over the bank holiday weekend a whole series of events will take place across the county to celebrate 'Mayo-ness.' Wherever you are around the county there is bound to be a Mayo Day event near you to get involved with.

The day will allow Mayo people at home and away have an opportunity to celebrate all that is great about their progressive, can-do county. This day is an opportunity for business, communities, families, individuals to celebrate who we are, and where we come from, a day in the calendar year that recognises Mayo and its people. The unique concept driven by Mayo County Council, will  see events take place in towns and villages around Mayo, while at the same time events will be scheduled in  Mayo Communities overseas.

Castlebar will see a number of events take place across the weekend with a Mayo Day extravaganza on the Mall in the middle of the town on Saturday, the L’Arbre de la Liberté Conference GMIT, battle re-enactments, and the eighth annual West of Ireland Women's mini-marathon among the highlights. Ballina will have a live outdoor concert in the Military Quarter on Saturday night headlined by singer-songwriter Ryan Sheridan and support coming from The Mississippi Sheiks, The New Social and Jo Keegan. Earlier in the day there will be a youth music showcase in the Military Quarter ahead of the evening's big concert. Westport will see the skies over Clew Bay light up with a spectacular fireworks display as night sets in, and earlier that day the Bike Buffet will be back for another foodie spin around the town. In Ballyhaunis, the town will host a multi-cultural festival and the world premier of a documentary on the integration work down by Ballyhaunis GAA Club will be screened on Friday evening to get the weekend celebrations off and running.

In south Mayo both Claremorris and Ballirobe will be encouraging you to get out there and get healthy with a Mayo Day Park Run taking place in Clare Lake in Claremorris, and family community day is being hosted on the Bowers Walk in Ballinrobe.
