Man killed in Keenagh road accident named

The man who was killed following a road traffic accident at Keenagh crossroads on Wednesday morning was named locally as Matty Merrick, a mail contractor with An Post.

David McRedmond, CEO of An Post, has extended his sympathy on behalf of the company to the family of Mr Merrick.

Mr Merrick was killed in a road traffic accident during the course of his work in Mayo on Wednesday. McRedmond said he was saddened to hear of the sudden death of Mr Merrick. 

Gardaí in Belmullet are investigating the two car collision which occurred on the R312, Keenagh Cross Roads. Mr Merrick, who was in his mid sixties, was the sole occupant of his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene and was removed to Mayo General Hospital. The occupants of the second car, a man and woman in their early thirties, were brought to Mayo General with non life threatening injuries. The road was closed for Garda Forensic collision investigators and diversions were put in place.
