Art, storytelling, and Irish

Upcoming events at the National Museum of Ireland, Country Life, Turlough, include a family event on Sunday March 1 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm called Seaweed for Healthy Living.

During Seachtain na Gaeilge guided tours in Irish will take place from March 10 to March 13 at 2pm. Places are limited to 20. On Friday March 13 at 11.30am and 2pm a bilingual tour of the museum will take place with storyteller Niall De Burca. This event is suitable for junior and senior secondary students.

Study days for Leaving Certificate art students will take place on March 24 and March 25 from 10am to 1pm, in association with the National Gallery of Ireland. There will be a slideshow and talk which draws on images from the national collection and covers the Renaissance, impressionism to abstraction, and early modern Irish art. For budding adult writers, use your creative writing skills by composing a poem or a short story inspired by the Moylough Belt Shrine. Deadline the end of March.

Exhibitions currently on view at the museum include Common Threads, an exhibition of fabric craft made by eight women of different nationalities now living in Mayo; Planet Earth: Our Place in Space and Moylough Belt Shrine. For more information contact www.museum.ie or 094 903 1755.
