Last night at The Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin 4, Muintir Mhaigh Eo Atha Cliath announced the award winners for the Mayo Person of the Year, Meitheal, and Young Mayo Person of the Year for 2017.
The recipient of the 2017 Virginia Gallagher Mayo Person of the Year is well known Newport based butcher and entrepreneur Sean Kelly. The recipient of the 2017 Mayo Meitheal Award is Ballyhaunis GAA for their work in the area of integration along with sustaining rural communities, and the recipient of the 2017 Young Mayo Person of the Year is Mayo's latest Olympian Nicolas Quinn, who swam for Ireland in last year's games in Rio.
This is the first year that Muintir Mhaigh Eo Atha Cliath has presented such an award to recognise the achievements of the youth of Mayo. The award winners were picked by a independent judging panel consisting of journalist Niall Stokes, TV presenter Ciara Doherty, and academic Sheila Flanagan.
All three awards will be presented at the Mayo Association Dublin gala banquet on Friday February 10 at the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin 4. Demand for tickets is high, are being sold on a first come first served basis.
