Tests of Mayo broadband speeds ranks wireless provider Imagine as delivering faster speeds than many fibre providers

Ranking of broadband speeds in Mayo released by independent measurement expert, Ookla Speedtest “demonstrate the fundamental importance of wireless internet connectivity to counties like Mayo”, leading internet provider Imagine said recently. The Ookla Speedtest results 2016 measured the speed performance of all internet service providers (ISP ) servicing the Irish market. The results were calculated by measuring and aggregating the performance of ISPs as reported by users, with the top five providers ranked and named.

Imagine LTE (Imagine ) placed second in Ireland for the 2016 speedtest, behind Virgin Media, but ahead of eir, Vodafone and Sky. Imagine has rolled-out its wireless offering across Mayo, delivering broadband speeds faster than fibre in broadband blackspots. Using the latest wireless technology, Imagine has connected homes and businesses across the county. The company plans to add an additional customers in Mayo as part of a 2017 and 2018 investment programme.

Commenting, Brian O’Donohoe, commercial director at Imagine, said: “The results of the Ookla Speedtest for 2016 show that Imagine is the leading provider of high quality broadband. Our wireless solution is delivering a higher speed service across Mayo than many city dwellers are currently getting. In many cases, rural broadband is better than what certain households in Dublin are getting.

“The results also show that advanced fixed wireless internet, which transmits high-speed internet signals through the air, is a powerful and more effective alternative to ‘fibre-to-the-home’ broadband in rural Ireland. Overall, Imagine is delivering faster speeds to the countryside than providers like eir are delivering to cities and towns, and without using wires or cables.”
