The Holy Trinity Church, Newport Road, Westport will hold a fundraising concert night with country gospel singer James Kilbane on Friday October 21 at 8pm. This concert is in support of the church's local fundraising efforts which is being undertaken to cover costs and pay for restoration work to the Holy Trinity building.
The Holy Trinity Church was built 144 years ago in 1872. The church is of great religious, historic, tourist, and social importance to Westport, but also the wider county of Mayo. The building is unique in its exterior design and also its detailed ornate interior decoration which was completed in 1890.
The church continues to be a very important focal point to the local Church of Ireland congregation who to use it weekly. Holy Trinity Church is also a popular tourist attraction to many who visit Westport and County Mayo.
Now, 144 after its construction, the church needs substantial restoration work both to the exterior and the building’s carved stone, and internally to the church's beautiful windows, murals, tiles, and plasterwork.
The restoration work will be carried out over two phases, starting with the external work and then moving to the church roof and interior. Local and regional support to the event will be greatly appreciated.
James Kilbane is looking forward to returning to Westport and the concert event. Since 2004 Kilbane has become a popular voice on radio and television across the Ireland with his mix of country, gospel, and faith-based music. His home grown and easy style now attracts many from every walk of life and many Christian traditions to his music. He has also been a regular on television, presenting a 10 week series of country gospel shows on Sky Country Music Television.
