November 2015 saw current and past Junior Chamber members from around the county gather to celebrate 100 years of the Junior Chamber movement around the globe. After the success of last year’s event the team at JCIMayo have decided to make it an annual event. This year's celebration will take place tomorrow, November 19 at 7.30pm in the Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar.
Junior Chamber has been in Mayo since the 1960s with branches in towns such as Castlebar, Westport, Ballina, and Ballyhaunis. Past members have included local, national, and European politicians, along with heads of business and civil society. Junior Chamber in Mayo was reformed in 2011 and is now a county wide branch with members from towns such as Killala, Swinford, Westport, and Castlebar.
Junior Chamber is for people aged 18 to 40, with the option of over 40s becoming patrons. There are four main areas of opportunity, which are individual, business, community, and international. Past members fondly remembers what personal and professional development they gained because of their involvement with JCI and this is still true to this day.
Over the years in Mayo, many projects have happened such as St Patrick's Day parades, bringing important Mayo based archaeological pieces down from the National Gallery to be displayed in banks around the county, table quizzes, debating competitions (that may be where those politicians cut their teeth ), and best shop windows.
During 2016 the theme of JCI Mayo was #BePartOfIt and the organisation wants to celebrate its success with everyone who was part of it during the year, along with past members and friends of JCI (formerly Junior Chamber ). These former and present members of JCI, would often state that JCI ‘gave me a practical MBA’, and ‘gave me friends for life’.
Starting at 7.30pm with a drinks reception, the gala ball will feature a beautiful three course meal, some light entertainment, and an awards presentation, finishing off the night in Healy Mac's Bar. Tickets are available on Eventbrite and attendees can also register for the event on Facebook.
This has been a great year for JCI Mayo, which extends its thanks to everyone for being part of it.
