Mayo claimed a 3-1 victory away to Newbridge Cheetahs last Saturday afternoon thus cementing their position at the summit of division two. The win takes their tally to an impressive five games out of five in this their maiden season.
The match began with Mayo hitting the ground running as they comfortably disposed of their opponents in the opening set 25-13. However Newbridge did rise to the challenge in the following set, but Mayo managed to weather the storm claiming a narrow 26-24 win in a closely fought second set.
The Kildare club were not going to down without a fight however as they dug deep with an array of good hits claiming their first set of the afternoon 25-18. Nonetheless that set would prove to be their last as Mayo ploughed forward with great resilience in an intense final set winning the fourth 25:21 thus winning the match 3-1.
After the game Gillian Doherty said, "There is a great team bond between the girls which makes it easy to advance both as individuals and as a team." Mayo's next fixture is away to Santry who also remain unbeaten but have played two games fewer on November 27 at 2:15pm.
