Fine for woman driving with mobile phone

A Limerick woman was convicted and fined €100 for using a mobile phone while driving, at Claremorris District Court this week.

Vanessa Kellett of Beachlawn, Balicmany, Limerick, was in court on foot of not paying a fixed penalty notice in relation to the fine. Kellett told the court that she had not received the fine in the post and would have paid it when it arrived, as she was aware that it should have arrived after the incident. Garda Brian Guerin told the court that he spotted Kellett driving while talking on the mobile phone on July 17 2008 at Mount Street, Claremorris, Co Mayo. Judge Devins accepted Kellett’s assertions that she did not receive the fine and convicted and fined her €100.
