RSA seeks views of truckers on work time rules

Bus and truck drivers including operators are being asked by the Road Safety Authority (RSA ) for their views on planned changes to their working time rules. The changes are being proposed by the EU and apply to any drivers and travelling staff using buses and trucks which are fitted with tachographs.

The RSA wants drivers to give their views on the EU Commission’s plans to change the definition of a ‘mobile worker’. These plans are aimed at targeting bus and truck operators who require their drivers to become self-employed to avoid their legal duty.

There are also changes being proposed to working at night. It is being proposed that the definition of night work should be changed so that a minimum of two hours night work during the night period must be undertaken before the ‘night’ rules apply.

A copy of the consultation paper ‘Road Transport Working Time Directive – Consultation Paper’ can be downloaded from the RSA website www.rsa.ie or by e-mailing requests to [email protected]. The closing date for submitting views is Friday February 27.
