Custom House Studios and The Rolling Sun Book Festival 2016 are pleased to host the launch of Lady Cassie Peregrina, a recent poetry collection by Terry McDonagh, published by Arlen House, Galway, on Thursday November 3 at 6.30pm. Guest speaker on the evening will be poet Ger Reidy and admission is free.
McDonagh said: "Lady Cassie Peregrina is a poetry collection that tells the story of Cassie, a border collie, rescued by Ballyhaunis ISPCA and adopted by us in 2013. We – Joanna, Matthew, Cassie, and I – shared life for nine months in Mayo, then headed for Hamburg by car via Belfast, Scotland, Newcastle, Amsterdam and, finally, Hamburg. The whole collection tells of this journey in six sections – three allocated to Cassie's point of view and three to mine."
Terry McDonagh taught creative writing at the University of Hamburg and was drama director at the International School Hamburg for 15 years. He has held residencies in Europe, Asia, and Australia.
His publications include eight poetry collections as well as letters and prose poetry; translations into Indonesian and German. His poem, "Out of the Dying Pan into the Pyre", was long-listed for the Poetry Society Poetry Prize 2015.
