Halloween weekend looks like it is going to be one you remember for a long time to come. Greenroom Bookings and the Foxford Woollen Mills have another magnificent night of music on Saturday October 29 at the beautiful setting that is Foxford Woollen Mills. Performing on the night are The Whileaways and John Hoban.
Both artists are hugely admired around Ireland and internationally. Part of The Whileaways' appeal lies in the fact that they have three lead singers, with Noelie McDonnell, Nicola Joyce, and Noriana Kennedy all having led bands before they joined forces. Their sound is true, their performances gloriously engaging. Noriana Kennedy, Nicola Joyce, and Noelie Mc Donnell came to know each other’s singing over a number of years, playing in sessions in the folk melting pot of Galway city. Dipping their toe in the water as a trio, they were hailed as ‘a knockout of the festival’ at the legendary Port Fairy Folk Festival, Australia, in 2012. The band continue to cut a confident trail in roots music and woo audiences with their sincerity and perfect simplicity. The Whileaways' brilliant new album Saltwater Kisses is available now for download at www.thewhileawaysmusic.com
John Hoban on the other hand is a Castlebar native, a musician, singer, songwriter, poet — and has travelled all over the world with his music. The ultimate multi-instrumentalist, John plays fiddle, accordian, mandolin, cello, harmonica, etc. He writes and composes his own songs and music. It has been said that he could make music from a sheaf of oats. John combines the best of the Irish tradition with an intimate, warm, and raw sensibility that is his own. He is highly regarded nationally and internationally for the unique and deeply personal nature of his music. John Hoban’s visionary and unique fifth solo recording, Fad Saol is a double album: the first half consists of original, covers, and traditional songs accompanied by 12-string guitar and mandocello; the second half is traditional, original, instrumental fiddle music accompanied by mandocello, banjo, and mandolin. The recording captures the quality and energy of a live performance and is available at www.johnhoban.net
