Claremorris man fined for public order offences

A Claremorris man was convicted and fined €100 for being drunk in public offence in Claremorris District Court this week, but had a more threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour charge struck out by the judge.

Daniel Ward, Castlegar, Claremorris, pleaded guilty to the section four offence in front of Judge Mary Devins. Garda Francis Devaney, giving evidence to court, said she was on duty in Claremorris at 4.50pm on January 3 2008 when she saw Ward who was extremely intoxicated and acting in an aggressive way. Garda Devaney told the court that Ward continued to be abusive towards her when she approached him and he had to be restrained by one of her colleagues. Judge Devins convicted and fined him €100 for the public order offence.
