Woman stole while on suspended sentence

A Claremorris woman was remanded in Claremorris District Court this week to appear before Judge Mary Fahy in Galway District Court on Monday after she pleaded guilty to a number of theft charges while serving a suspended sentence.

Winnie McDonagh, 35 Lúi na Greine, Claremorris, Co Mayo, pleaded guilty to three separate incidents of theft in court. On October 8 2008 she admitted to stealing 200 cigarettes from a Londis Shop in Ballyhaunis, on March 17 2008 she admitted to stealing €12 worth of items from SuperValu in Claremorris, and on July 4 2008 she was found in possession of a pair of shoes valued at €120 which had been stolen a number of days earlier from McGuire’s Shoe Shop in Ballina.

Judge Mary Devins heard that McDonagh had a number of previous convictions for theft and was currently serving a 12 month suspended sentence imposed on her by Judge Mary Fahy in Galway, and remanded her back to appear before Judge Fahy this Monday (February 23 ) to allow her to activate the sentence.
