Following a failed effort last year to pass a material contravention in relation to an application which was submitted by Brendan Byrne and Sons Ltd for a mixed use residential scheme (including residential, crèche and gym ) on zoned land in the Lodge Road area, all councillors, bar Councillor Myles Staunton, were in favour of the development.
Two submissions in relation to the three block, four storey building with a gross floor area of 8,135sq m were received after the proposed material contravention was advertised nationally, with the main concerns of these submissions including, among others, potential traffic problems; the height of the development; and the concern that the site may have previously been used for illegal dumping.
In a town manager’s report, Peter Hynes addressed all submission concerns, stating that there is no record that the site had a history of being used for dumping rubbish and if the development is given the go ahead then in relation to traffic new junctions and footpaths will be created.
