Eco friendly development ready for residents

Phase one of the Tubberhill development is now drawing to completion, with new residents set to live in the 43 units by Easter.

Senior executive officer Martin Keating announced details of the development at last Thursday’s meeting, with all councillors welcoming the development.

Twenty-one apartments and 22 houses make up the project which, as Mr Keating explained, are all energy efficient and also connected to the gas network. It was envisaged that affordable units would make up half of those which were for social applicants, however, due to the change in the economic climate, the number of affordable unit owners in Tubberhill may drop.

Councillor Margaret Adams welcomed the eco friendly development and hoped that some of the units would also facilitate immigrants and those with special needs. Cllr Peter Flynn commented that the issue of housing needs to remain on the agenda over the next three months in order to discuss how, with the abundance of empty houses and sites in the town, people who are looking to get onto the property ladder can be facilitated.
