Dangerous driving conviction for man who drove on Castlebar footpath

A 24-year-old man was disqualified from driving at Castlebar District Court this week after he drove his car onto a footpath in Castlebar.

Brian Higgins, Curraghdooey, Crossboyne, Claremorris, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on April 23 last year at 5.45pm, after a complaint was lodged from a man who feared for his own safety when the defendant mounted a footpath for a distance of 40 yards near the Mayo Education Centre on the Newport Road.

Defending solicitor Evan O’Dwyer said that the man is living at home with his parents and is in receipt of disability benefit. Higgins, who has one previous road traffic conviction, was convicted and fined €300 by Judge Mary Devins and disqualified from driving for two years.
