Imagine is to roll out more high speed broadband services in Mayo. This will make high speed broadband available to homes in the area from Ballina to Castlebar and Islandeady to Swinford and the rural areas in between. This further investment in the county is a result of the large demand for services in the broadband black spots that Imagine has already covered.
Brian O'Donohoe, commercial director of Imagine, told the Mayo Advertiser: "We are bringing proper broadband solutions to people all over Mayo who may not be able to get connected to the fibre network. We are extending the area we cover all the time, because people have been coming to us to look to get connected to our LTE solutions. We have thousands of people all over the country from rural Cork, Cavan, Donegal and now Mayo who are getting 65Mb downloads and 6Mb uploads. This is a heavy duty solution that is perfect for everyone. We are rolling out through places like Killala, Crossmolina, Lahardane and Bonniconlon in the north of the county, while we also cover around Castlebar and in the south of Mayo the greater Ballinrobe aera like Tourmakeady, Cong, Ballyglass are all going to get connected to it. If people want to check if they are covered they can use or coverage checker on www.imagine.ie or give us a call on 1890 929300."
Up to now getting high speed broadband, using the existing phone lines to connect to fibre, was dependent on the planned upgrade of the eir network and local exchange to fibre. But even then this is limited to homes and businesses close to fibre or the local exchange. In regional and rural areas this has left thousands of homes and businesses unsure when and if they will be able to get connected. These homes can now check if they can get the service at www.imagine.ie
Instead of having to use the copper network to connect homes to fibre enabled exchanges, Imagine is using the very latest next generation wireless technology Advanced LTE to connect homes and businesses directly to the nearest fibre point on its network. This means that the service is not limited to areas close to an exchange and can be provided to anyone within a coverage area of up to 13km.
