Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI ) has secured funding of €85,346 to develop a Lough Nanannagh in Claremorris. The proposed project will see Lough Nanannagh developed as a managed stocked trout fishery, complete with a recreation hub located around the lake. The funding was awarded by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs as part of the Government’s programme to support rural development.
The development of this natural resource will provide a perfect location for young people and novice anglers to learn and develop skills in the art of fly fishing, boat handling and water safety. An accessible and scenic looped walk around Lough Nanannagh will be provided which will allow for angling, walking, nature observation and picnic points. The existing county council pump house will also be converted into a canteen and a small service facility with toilet and dining facilities.
