The 15th Annual De Care Dental Claremorris 8k took place recently. It was also a target race in the 2016 Mayo AC Vodafone C&C Cellular Club League. It has a testing final 2k from the Knock Road to the finish line on the track. Conditions were warm and sunny and the water stations were busy. Michael Canty from recently formed Ballina based Moy Valley AC was the winner in 26:24, two minutes clear of John Byrne (Mayo AC ) in second with Sean Burke (Tuam AC ) third in 29:36.
Claremorris athlete Kathy Gleeson has had a very successful year so far and she was first woman home in 31:20, in a close finish just six seconds ahead of two Mayo AC runners Ann Lennon 31:26 with Sarah Syron in third 32:10. Mayo AC were well represented among the 97 finishers and won most of the category prizes. There was a colourful display by many runners wearing the De Care Dental race t-shirts.
