During the summer Claremorris Leisure Centre held its annual swimathon in aid of Cancer Care West. All proceeds raised from this event went directly to the charity. Cancer Care West provides support to cancer patients and their families from all over the west of Ireland. All of Cancer Care West’s services are provided at no cost to patients and their families, so it relies greatly on charitable fundraising and donations to meet the cost and demand of these services.
Approximately 50 swimmers togged out and swam 2.5km each (100 lengths ). The turnout was amazing and the support for the chosen charity was extremely generous. €5,732.47 was raised for Cancer Care West and Claremorris Leisure Centre is grateful and proud of everyone who took part.
Claremorris Leisure Centre would like to thank Glenn Judge Heating and Plumbing which was the main sponsor, and Atlantic Vending and DC Sport for their sponsorship and support. The leisure centre would also like to extend its thanks to Sean Costello who organised the event and to all the staff and swim club members who helped out. Plans for the 2017 swimathon are already under way so keep an eye on the Claremorris Leisure Centre’s website and Facebook page for all the information.
