The annual penal time remembrance mass will take place beside the Salvation cross and lookout rock on Tirclieu mountain in Shramore outside Newport. Climbing starts from 1pm outside Chambers House where after the Mass participants will be treated to a well deserved cup of tea and Ger Chambers' famous boxty.
For those unfit to take part in the climb the Mass will be transmitted live from the hillside to Shramore Church. Also taking place in line with this event the Nephin Beggars Walking Group will be leading the Glanamoung Camino walk. There is a fee of €25 to take part in this event and all money raised will go towards maintenance work on Shramore church. Registration is from 8am at Brannans in Newport where participants will be collected by taxi and brought to the starting point of the hike and again picked up by taxi at Chambers House in Shramore after the hike.
