Fine Gael Mayo based Senator Michelle Mulherin confirmed yesterday that Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Sean Canney TD will meet with locals in Crossmolina Monday July 18 in relation to their concerns over flooding.
Sen Mulherin said: "He and his officials will meet with locals who are involved with the Flood Action Committee and management of Mayo County Council along with local public representatives. I have also invited Inland Fisheries Ireland and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, who have also agreed to send representatives on the day. It is important that all stakeholders including Government agencies are present so that any issues or obstacles, particularly in relation to the implementation of minor flood defence works between now and the coming winter, can be addressed comprehensively there and then at the meeting.
"I am delighted the Minister is coming and I expect it to reinforce the need for urgency in this matter so that we can see works on the ground very shortly, and so that locals can be assured that all that can be done to reduce the risk of flooding this winter is being done."
