The distinctive call of the corncrake is something that once heard is never forgotten. While it's not the most pleasing on the ear, you have an opportunity next Friday night to hear it's distinctive call on a midnight corncrake tour on the Mullet Peninsula. As part of the Erris Beo festival and in conjunction with Belmullet Tidy Towns and Ballycroy National Park, a midnight corncrake tour will take place. This is a chance to experience it in the Wild Erris region.
The tour will include a brief talk by the local Corncrake Conservation Officer. Booking is essential for this event. The tour meets up at the Talbot Hotel and the cost is just €5. You can book by calling (098 ) 49888 or by emailing [email protected]. A Corncrake B&B package is available in the Talbot Hotel, Belmullet, for €65pps, (097 ) 20484 ) and in the Talbot Lodge in Geesala for €35pps (097 ) 86000.
