Yoga centres and teachers across Ireland will be donating the proceeds of their classes to ActionAid’s ongoing work in Nepal this June. Two yoga studios in Mayo will be taking part: Bonco Wellness will be running a yoga class on Saturday, June 18 from 10am to 11.30am. Yoga teacher Aideen Ryan will also be running a class during the month of June, with the location and date yet to be confirmed. For more information visit www.actionaid.ie/yoga-day
The ActionAid ‘Yoga Weekend 2016’ follows on from the same event last June, when over 20 yoga centres and teachers across Ireland generously helped raise money for Nepal after the devastating earthquake through donating the proceeds of their classes for one weekend. A total of €8,170 was raised for the emergency response in Nepal through the initiative.
This year over 30 yoga centres and teachers across Ireland will be participating in the Yoga Weekend. Funds raised from this year’s event will go towards the building of a childcare centre in Nepal, as the country continues to recover from the devastating earthquake.
Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and ActionAid has been working there for more than 30 years. As well as helping end poverty and supporting emergency responses, ActionAid is committed to the promotion of women’s rights and children’s education in Nepal. Last year following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake ActionAid Nepal was able to respond immediately, reaching out to more than 118,000 people affected by the disaster by providing immediate support including food, blankets, temporary shelters, dignity kits for women, early recovery support, and child friendly spaces.
