Barrett only player definitely out of Galway clash

GAA: Connacht SFC

The countdown is well and truly on for Mayo's first championship home game of the season next Saturday night when Galway come to MacHale Park for the semi-final showdown. In the lead-up to the game, Mayo manager Stephen Rochford spoke to the press earlier this week about the contest.

Despite having a lengthy enough list of niggling injuries to contend with, only Belmullet defender Christ Barrett has been definitely ruled out of the game as he tries to shake off the effects of a hamstring injury.

Rochford said: "Conor Loftus picked up a slight knock to his hamstring, he didn't train in London and we probably won't know, but he's 50/50 for Galway. Otherwise it's too early to say, but we're hopeful. Diarmuid O'Connor did some training, Seamie O'Shea trained a little bit so we're looking to progress him this week.

"We're still a bit shy of the date, but we're a bit more positive than when we were heading for London. Tom Parsons was available to play against London if needed."

As for the training camp they held in London the week following their championship opener, Rochford was postive about what they achieved over the week. "These camps by their nature are hard work, a lot of football and a lot of football talk, but overall we feel it was positive, but time will tell."
